Aaliyah lives with her mother in the Soweto slums in Nairobi, Kenya. Her father left the family when Aaliyah was not yet born because he was not ready to start a family. Since then, her mother has tried to support Aaliyah and with casual jobs like washing cloth and cleaning houses. The relationship with her mother is peaceful.
Aaliyah’s dream is to become a doctor, to be able to take good care of her mother later on. In her free time, she likes to watch cartoons because she loves bright colors (pink being her favorite). It is no wonder that drawing and coloring are her favorite activities at school.
