Purity lives with her mother and two sisters in the Soweto slums in Nairobi Kenya. Her father separated from her mother five years ago and the family has not seen him since. In order to feed the small family, her mother works odd jobs, such as washing clothes and cleaning other people’s houses. Unfortunately, the income is often not enough to put a hot meal on the table every day, not to mention pay school fees.
Purity’s dream is to become a journalist. She loves interacting with other people, hearing about their stories, and sharing them with her mother in the evenings. She is eager to write down all these stories and report on important things in the world. When asked what she loves the most, Purity answered “my mom!” as if out of the gun. She is always there for her, she said and works very hard to provide for her family. She is the strongest person Purity knows. Her favorite color is blue because that color reminds her of a cloudless sky.
Purity would incredibly love to attend school and is most looking forward to learning how to write!
